This is the WORST mac n cheese I've ever eaten! It came out this one big glutenous mass. Put a spoon in it and the whole thing came out in a huge crockpot-shaped blob! It was rich in flavor, albeit fattening, and my family devoured it. Like the mac and cheese I make in my oven, it came out sturdy, like a lasagna, as opposed to noodles with sauce. Rather than dirtying three pots, this dump-it and leave-it method produced a rich, creamy casserole. I will never make regular mac and cheese again. Cover and cook on LOW heat 5-6 hours, or until mixture is firm and golden around the edges. Add the remaining cheese and the other ingredients to the macaroni. Will experiment with a few other tweaks next time but this is too easy to not try again. Place cooked macaroni in a 3 1/2 quart or larger crock pot that has been coated with nonstick cooking spray. Noodles ended up softer than we prefer so next time I will start checking at 3 hours. Won't make it again.ĭidn't have evaporated milk so I substituted all whole milk. Thought this might be a nice easy mac and cheese - tried it. Cover and cook on low for 1 1/2 2 hours, or until the pasta is tender and the cheese is melted. Add the grated cheese and stir to combine. Bake about 20 minutes at 350 until bubbly. Place cooked pasta in 9x13 dish, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, then cover with cheese sauce and mix. Stir in half the cheese until melted, blend with immersion blender until smooth. Add the butter, cream cheese, milk and cream. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened/starting to bubble. It's just not that hard in the first place. Place the uncooked pasta into the bottom of the slow cooker. The centre was not quite set, but after turning it onto a platter, and a few brief minutes under the broiler, the custard was set perfectly and the top was nicely browned. My location is pretty high in elevation (about 3500ft) so I let it cook for about 3 hours and 15 minutes.
#MAC AND CHEESE NOODLES MUSHY IN CROCK POT FOR MAC#
if it’s a scorching summer day and you’re dying for Mac and cheese, but you don’t want to heat up your kitchen with a boiling a pot of water and a hot oven, making Mac and cheese in a slow cooker is a stroke of genius! I followed the directions pretty much exactly, an the result was more like a cheesy macaroni pie or loaf, rather than conventional creamy Mac and cheese, but it was still delicious and I would definitely make it again. This recipe is excellent! And you know why? Because. Absolutely horrid and a waste of good cheese.
